Homade Gift Idea: Memory Jar

I mentioned a little while ago that Will and I celebrated our First Anniversary two weeks ago. He made us a nice dinner and we stayed up talking about all of the meaningful moments we've shared in the last year. I am so lucky that I decided to go out and meet up with some friends that night, and that Will decided to go meet with the same friends that night, and that we happened to sit next to one another.

Since Will had dinner under control I decided to make him something I felt was really meaningful. I spent the weeks leading up to our anniversary remembering all of the wonderful memories we'd made together in the year that we'd known each other.
I tore pieces of parchment and wrote all of my favorite times on them for us to read together! I tried dressing the jar up a little bit too! :)

There are so many cute gift ideas around the internet nowadays with Pinterest and craft blogs so I wanted to be sure to do something I hadn't already seen. I am happy with the way it turned out and my favorite part was sitting with Will reading the little slips to each other. It made for a really special evening.

What kinds of homemade gifts have you made for your loved ones on special days? Do you prefer to make or buy your gifts?
Wishing you a lovely little day!

  1. This is such a sweet gift idea. It would be really wonderful to send to a long-distance pal as well. I'm sure it was so fun to read all of the slips of paper together!

  2. where you said you are so lucky to have been there at that exact moment, that was the cutest thing ever! it's really strange how things happen and how our decisions decide our future (well yeah obviously, but i mean the small details).

but this jar is so wonderful, such a nice idea. and i'm sure it was a great thing to do with your boyfriend, reminding each other of the best moments you've shared.. c':

when making presents, i prefer it to be something small but meaningful, and maybe get something and make something to go with it. i love origami and i always go for hearts, cards, envelopes, nothing really original but it's a nice break from the usual cards you buy. and the people who are closest to me really appreciate it because instead of buying something expensive and huge, it really brings the emotions out when it's something handmade.

  6. I love this gift idea, I may have to steal if for the 2 year anniversary ( about 8 months away lol) but I did something similar for myself. With last years new year I decided to start jar of all the good things that had happened to me over the year so that when 2014 came I could read back on how wonderful it was rather then the usual next year will be better bullshit. And you know what it worked! 2013 really was great, maybe on its own and maybe because with the approach of 2014 I had notes to myself to remind me how great it really was.
